Envy (The Seven Deadly and Four Novels) by Tim Beeben

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a honest review. Today is my stop on the Escapist Book Tour and we will be jumping into Envy by Tim Beeden. Although Envy is the second book in the Seven Deadly and Four Novels, the books are designed to be read as standalones. You can safely jumping into Envy with no prequisites at all. Charlie Lightfoot steals the day with his wit and humorous banter as he moves forward in his quest to be a musician. He may be trampling on more people than he cares to admit or think possible. Be prepared to taken away to a dark alley town and experience the whimsical joy I have not seen since Terry Pratchet.

Charlie Lightfoot starts out in the backstreets of Calver just minding his own business and trying to stay out of trouble. Being raised by his very grumpy and hillarious Auntie, Charlie is unsure where to go in life as he is constantly the target of bullies. Until one day he meets a Blind Watch’em who has more secrets and knowledge than he knows what to do with. He agrees to take Charlie under his wing and teach him the Fiddle. From here, Charlies goal is to be a great musician if he can keep his head on straight but most everyone has other plans for Charlie. I won’t go further into the plot because that will be ruining all the fun.

Charlie’s story should be a reminder to everyone to always follow your dreams even in the face of insurmountable odds. You never know what friends and/or enemies you will meet along the way and to always watch your step. If you are looking for a relaxing read with enjoyable characters and laugh out loud comedy, then Envy is the book for you. Although I have not read the first book in this series, I have been told that Envy is an improvement on Tim’s debut novel. With this being the case, I can’t wait to see what else this author has in store for us.

From the back alley’s to the shady taverns and all other places in between, Charlie and his mysterious gang of friends will be sure to put a smile on your face. It’s not always the easy path you need to take to realize your dreams, but the road not taken will leave you with regret and doubt for all your days. Charlie found his way, will you find yours?

Cheers!
