Faithful and the Fallen Read along starting March 1st, 2021

Hello all of you lovely readers out there! This will not be one of my typical posts, but rather a celebration for the Faithful and the Fallen Series by John Gwynne. I read this series when Malice first came out in 2012 and the rest is history. Almost a decade later, I can still remember the characters, plot, and major events vividly and with resounding joy. I consider this series to be a modern masterpiece in the epic fantasy genre and to get make more readers aware of this great series, I will be hosting a read along on my Discord channel starting in March 2021! I will leave a link to my discord in this post as well as on my twitter handle.

Schedule:

I am going into this read along with the goal of reading one book per month with a spoiler chat discussion during the last week of the month. If you are a fast reader, you are more than welcome to read ahead, but the spoiler chats won’t be open until the end of each month. Open discussion is welcome at all times on the discord as I hope to create a mini Faithful and the Fallen Warband.

Malice – March 2021

Valor – April 2021

Ruin – May 2021

Wrath – June 2021

This will be my first reread of the series, so feel free to ask me any and all questions you may have. I have reviewed every book in the Banished Lands on my blog, but for those who want a brief synopsis:

A black sun is rising …

Young Corban watches enviously as boys become warriors under King Brenin’s rule, learning the art of war. He yearns to wield his sword and spear to protect his king’s realm. But that day will come all too soon. Only when he loses those he loves will he learn the true price of courage.

The Banished Lands has a violent past where armies of men and giants clashed shields in battle, the earth running dark with their heartsblood. Although the giant-clans were broken in ages past, their ruined fortresses still scar the land. But now giants stir anew, the very stones weep blood and there are sightings of giant wyrms. Those who can still read the signs see a threat far greater than the ancient wars. Sorrow will darken the world, as angels and demons make it their battlefield. Then there will be a war to end all wars.

High King Aquilus summons his fellow kings to council, seeking an alliance in this time of need. Some are skeptical, fighting their own border skirmishes against pirates and giants. But prophesy indicates darkness and light will demand two champions, the Black Sun and the Bright Star. They would be wise to seek out both, for if the Black Sun gains ascendancy, mankind’s hopes and dreams will fall to dust.

The Faithful and the Fallen contains several of my favorite characters in all of fantasy. I hope when this read along is finished, it will be yours as well!

Truth and Courage!

  1. I actually just finished Wrath last week, completing the entire Faith And The Fallen series. I might move on to the next series where it’s many years later in the Banished Lands.

Malice was really awesome but Ruin was by far my most favorite. SO much bloodshed.
